Manufacturing Workflow

HVAC Duct Fabrication Process: Cutting, Seaming, Flanging and Insulation

Our China facility executes end-to-end hvac sheet metal fabrication using calibrated CNC equipment to produce airtight, structurally sound duct systems for commercial and industrial projects worldwide.

Step 01

Cutting and Notching Duct Blanks

Production begins with automated decoiling, high-precision fibre laser cutting, and CNC punching of 0.5-3.0 mm blanks. Automated nesting software minimises material scrap while forming corner notches, bolt holes, and fold lines accurately. Fabricators rely on our sheet metal thickness and gauge tables across galvanized, carbon, and stainless steel raw materials before precision press-brake folding.

Step 02

Seaming and Lock Forming

Straight duct sections and specialized fittings pass through roll formers to produce longitudinal Pittsburgh lock or snap lock seams. Dedicated roll formers also shape integrated TDF flange profiles directly into blank edges. Operators then close the corner locks and apply elastomeric seam sealant internally, ensuring complete joint integrity under demanding pressure ratings during rigorous hvac metal fabrication.

Step 03

Flanging, Stiffening and Reinforcement

Transverse joints are completed using precision slip-on cleats, angle iron rings, or roll-formed flanges. To prevent panel deflection under positive or negative airflow cycles, wide ducts receive internal tie rods and external hat-channel stiffeners. Welded flanges undergo dressing, and assemblies receive specialized duct coatings and finishes suited for aggressive industrial or seaside operating environments.

Step 04

Insulation and Acoustic Lining

For thermal retention and sound attenuation, duct runs undergo factory insulation before final crating and dispatch. We install internal acoustic lining using mechanical weld pins and contact adhesives. Alternatively, external foil-faced elastomeric or mineral wool wraps are secured to prevent condensation. This turnkey process completes our OEM contract manufacturing workflow for high-volume hvac sheet metal fabrication projects.
